Beautifully Different – Morgan

Beautifully Different

A Project Celebrating Differences and Triumphs

Morgan is Beautifully Different

Today I am honored to introduce Morgan. Morgan is one of the sweetest 12 year old girls I have ever met, who is (in the words of her Mother) Beautifully wonderfully made! Morgan has faced many challenges in short amount of time that she has been alive. Morgan was born with a unilateral cleft lip and palate, no left hip socket and eczema. At 9 months old she was diagnosed with multiple food allergies, and at age 12 was diagnosed with severe idiopathic short stature syndrome. (she is short but may never grow past 4’8”). She has had 10 surgeries to date, most of which required hospital stays.

Morgan is so Beautifully Different!

Life for Morgan is a little different than most of her peers. She has to miss a lot of school for doctor appointments every 4 weeks. Kids tend to notice her scars and her skin can be a big issues people think she has a disease. Food allergies pretty much control a lot of where Morgan can eat, not a lot of restaurants are very allergy friendly. Speech is another issue as some people can’t understand her. A lot of her peers don’t like to invite her over because they are afraid to.

Morgan is More than her Differences

Morgan doesn’t let her differences keep her from being a happy pre-teen! She is friendly and kind. She has three sisters who love her dearly and two amazing parents. Morgan has an incredible support system who would do anything for her! She is a fun, outgoing, lovable girl who has turned a lot of her issues into learning experiences. Her Mom says her heart is bigger then her and that Morgan is their old soul!!

Morgans strength and resilience are inspiring. I have known her since she was a little girl and I have just loved watching her grow in to this amazing person! Morgan leaves a wave of good vibes wherever she goes, we need more people like Morgan in this world!

Beautifully Different – Kaylyn

Beautifully Different

A Project Celebrating Differences and Triumphs

Kaylyn is Beautifully Different

Meet Kaylyn. A spunky, resilient, and determined 4 year old. Kaylyn is a very special and amazing little girl. She was born with Symbrachydactyly. A condition where some of her fingers and toes did not form correctly. She is missing fingers from both hands and missing toes on both feet. She has had two separate surgeries on both of her hands. Her pinky, ring, and middle fingers were fussed together and she also had an amniotic band on one of her fingers. Her first surgery was to separate her pinky and ring fingers and to remove her amniotic band. Then her second surgery was to separate her ring and middle fingers. They grafted skin from her wrists to fill in the skin that was missing. She had to wear casts on both her arms (from her armpit all the way covering her hands) for 3 weeks while they healed. 6 months later she had it done again.

She really is Beautifully Different

Kaylyn has had delays in gross motor, fine motor and speech. She was a late walker, right before her second birthday. Her family sometimes has a hard time understanding her, which is frustrating for her. It is hard for her to hold a pencil the right way and hold onto small objects. She has made tremendous strides though and has come a very long way from where she was before! She definitely doesn’t let anything slow her down! Aside from her physical differences, Kaylyn is your typical 4 year old girl, she goes to school, and loves playing with her friends and family.

Our Little Unicorn

One thing that is especially unique about Kaylyn is that her condition is very rare! There are only 20-30 people, that they know of, with the same kind of limb difference as hers. Everyone else that they have tested has two genes within one chromosome that is effected. She is the only one that they know of with only one gene effected instead of two. So because of her they now know what gene causes this kind of limb difference. Which is amazing! Her family calls her their Unicorn!
